Magrabi hospital, Cairo announced that they have treated 9 cases suffering of corneal chemical burns that left them blind. Dr. Sherif Eissa, Consultant, Cornea & Refractive Surgery submitted an article about these cases during the scientific day organized by Magrabi hospital.
Dr. Sheirf said “this is the latest technology to restore eyesight after corneal damage had occurred to a patient. The treatment uses the patient’s own stem cells, reducing the concerns about immunological rejection.
By using the patient’s stem cells, we were able to coax the cells to grow new tissue. This tissue was then grafted into the eyes of the patient”.
